Awards Shipping aims for the high spots BACK in February 1990, two young men named Simon Dun and Ferrari Wong opened a new shipping agency in 350 square feet of office space in Sheung Wan. They had little to help them other than several years' experience in freight forwarding and their enthusiasm. In particular, they had no staff. "For the first three months there were just the two of us," recalls Simon. "Between us, we did everything." But what they did have was a burning desire to succeed and an ambition to stand out in the fiercely competitive forwarding world as a name that customers could trust. So, with a flash of glamour, they named the company Awards Shipping. Today, from the vantage point of much larger premises in Causeway Bay, they command a successful company turning over tens of millions of dollars annually. Soon they will move into more than 6,000 square feet of offices in plush Causeway Bay Plaza. But even this milestone looks modest in comparison to the network of Awards Shipping offices steadily opening across Asia. The company now has offices in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia, and the Philippines. It is also planning to open offices in Vietnam and the Indian sub-continent. Laos and Brunei are other countries the firm is keeping an eye on.....
